Music has the power to bring joy and happiness into our lives, but did you know that it can also make babies smarter? Yes, you read that right! Music has a profound impact on a child’s development and can greatly enhance their cognitive, emotional, and social skills. This is why it is so important to make a musical environment for your child from an early age.

In this post we will be giving our top tips for how to bring music experiences that matter to your child’s life-

it’s not as hard as you might think and you don’t need to be a musician to do it!

-Let’s Get Started!

Research has shown that music stimulates multiple areas of the brain, including those responsible for language, memory, and spatial reasoning. In fact, studies have found that babies can identify pitch before they even learn to speak! This means that music can actually help to lay the foundation for future language skills.

But it’s not just about making your child smarter. Music can also bring happiness and emotional well-being into their lives. Music has been found to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression in both children and adults.

Meaningful movement is another key aspect of a child’s musical development. By moving to music, children learn about rhythm, beat, and tempo, which are all essential components of music. Movement also helps to engage different areas of the brain and encourages the development of fine and gross motor skills.

So, how can you bring music into your child’s life? There are many ways to do so, even if you don’t have any musical training yourself. Singing to your child, playing music in the background, and dancing together are all simple ways to incorporate music into your daily routine.

Our best tips?

  • Pick your Schedule– when do you listen to music? In the Car? Dance Party Fridays? When you’re cooking dinner? Adding music to your routine will get it into your child’s life! Find the best time that wors for you!
  • Listen!- your child might already be finding pitch! Experiment! If your child is babbling- respond to them and repeat on different pitches!
  • Sing on Syllables– take your babies favorite song and take away the words! Sing on whatever syllable they are focusing on- Ba, Da, La, ect!
  • Let them Explore- take out the pots and pans! Give them an unopened box of pasta! Let your child explore on their own! See what rhythms they will come up with naturally and then let them have their time!
  • Leave Room for Them-  sing your child’s favorite song, but before the end of a phrase- wait! See if they try to finish it on their own and leave room for your child to participate!

If you’re looking for more structured musical activities, consider enrolling your child in a Music and Me class at the Soaring Scarves Academy. These classes are specifically designed for babies from as young as 2 months old to preschool age, and incorporate singing, movement, and instrument play to create a fun and engaging musical experience.

For older students, the Soaring Scarves Academy also offers private music lessons for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. These lessons focus on developing fundamental skills in pitch, rhythm, dynamics, and more, and are tailored to each student’s individual needs and interests.

Offering virtual music lessons is a great way to make music education more accessible and affordable for families. Not only do virtual lessons eliminate the need for travel time, they also provide an opportunity for students to learn from the comfort of their own home. This is especially beneficial for parents with busy schedules, as they can easily fit in lessons during their child’s free time without having to worry about transportation.

Additionally, virtual lessons often have lower costs than in-person lessons, as the instructor does not have to factor in transportation or studio rental fees. This means that parents can save money while still providing their child with high-quality music education.

At the Soaring Scarves Academy, we offer virtual private lessons for students of all ages and levels. Our experienced instructors provide personalized instruction that is tailored to each student’s unique needs and interests. Whether your child is just starting out or looking to take their skills to the next level, we are dedicated to helping them achieve their musical goals.
